As you will learn, the SEBKT is neither a traditional relaxer nor a straightener that can only be used on certain types of hair. In fact, there’s nothing traditional about this new type of service. It does not involve a harsh, chemical treatment process that can over process hair and leave it in poor condition. The SEBKT™ is a universal product and can be used safely on just about any type of hair – dry, frizzy, over-processed, color treated, ethnic or even unprocessed virgin hair. Just about everyone can get the same great results – healthy, shiny, frizz-free, manageable hair.

What sets SEBKT ™ apart from older technology chemical straighteners and relaxers? The answer is simple - this process doesn’t involve breaking down the hair and restructuring it. These older technology treatments are designed to irreversibly modify and restructure keratin by using products with very high pH levels, usually greater than pH 9 (very high alkalinity). At these very high pH levels the hair shaft will soften, and then swell tremendously and thus become damaged. This is another big difference. The pH range of the Brazilian Keratin Treatment™ is between 4 and 5, exactly matching the normal pH of hair itself.

There’s no softening or swelling of the hair shafts, so it’s easy to see why the condition of the hair shaft is not compromised and why each strand maintains its strength and structural integrity. This advanced hair treatment service eliminates the need to carefully watch the clock in order to halt a high pH chemical process in time to prevent excessive damage to hair.

With the SEBKT ™, there is virtually no risk of hair damage or breakage, as long as the product is properly used. The SEBKT ™ is a long-lasting and gentle, reversible treatment that will eventually wash out over time, without harming the hair.

 

Is SEBKT Safe? I have had heard controversy about Keratin Treatments.

There have been several recent news reports concerning keratin based hair straightening products and their safety relative to consumers and stylists. We have always had a policy of full disclosure with regard to our ingredients. We here at System Elite use products that disclose all ingredients on packages, and can provide an OSHA compliant Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS). Additionally, we have completed the required education/certification program focuses on the safe and proper use of treatment products. Formaldehyde is a naturally occurring substance detected in everything from fruits and vegetables to cosmetics and building materials. Because formaldehyde is a dry gas at room temperature, it is chemically impossible for it to be an ingredient of a liquid cosmetic product; however, it is an unavoidable by-product of numerous ingredients.

Methylene glycol, which does not appear on the FDA’s official list of prohibited cosmetic ingredients, is the ingredient in some of the treatments that will produce a trace level of formaldehyde vapor when high heat is applied. For that reason, we can state that formaldehyde is not an ingredient in our treatments, but, we cannot, and have never claimed that they are formaldehyde free.

Providing safe products to our Stylist, as well as clients is of the utmost importance to System Elite. We have Studied ample laboratory data and Safety Assessments from highly credible laboratories, and industry experts such as Doug Schoon of Schoon Scientific of Dana Point, CA, and Dr. Edward Jackson of Jackson Research Associates of Sumner, WA, to support that the level of formaldehyde detected in the treatments, as well as in the airborne vapors produced by them, are well below OSHA’s guidelines for safety.

A: The Specialized Amino acid blend is new technology for hair care.  This formula is the same as the original SEBKT but has the presence of coca butter & antioxidants making this a heavier formula that weighs the hair down and produces straighter results on overly curly hair for up to *4 months.  This Formula is best suited for clients with extremely tight curls, coarse hair, or ethnic hair types.  Requires a 3 day setting Period.

Q: What is System Elite Brazilian Keratin Treatment (S.E.B.K.T Advanced) Smoothing Therapy?

A: This formula is the same as the original SEBKT but is for people with active lifestyles, and can be rinsed out of the hair on the same day.  While this treatment offers the advantage of same day results, PLEASE BE AWARE THAT RESULTS WILL LAST UP TO 8 WEEKS RATHER THAN 4 MONTHS, as with the SEBKT & SEBKT EXTREME. Requires an 8 hour setting period

A: System Elite Brazilian Keratin Treatment, was created especially for frizzy, curly texture and is effective on all hair types. It is a revitalizing and rejuvenating treatment that seals keratin into the cuticle to lock out frizz-causing humidity and reduce curl. One treatment gives long-lasting results for up to four months and requires a 96-hour setting period post-treatment. SEBKT Express, is a unique, one-hour service that gives the hair a softer, smoother and silkier texture for up to 8 weeks. Hair can be washed after just eight hours. Express Blow Out is perfect for all hair types. Reduces up to 80% of frizz. Will soften curl patterns up to 70%.  Does not contain any ingredients that will produce formaldehyde.

Q: How much time should be allowed for Treatment Service?

A: Time should be determined on an individual basis. As a general rule, please allow a two- to three-hour window for the SEBKT/SEBKT-Extreme/SEBKT-Advanced/SEBKT-Define and a one-hour window for SEBKT-Express Blowout.

Q: What results can be expected after the SEBKT Smoothing Treatment?

A: The hair will be more manageable and easy to style, and will be resistant to humidity. It will feel noticeably softer and silkier, with added life, shine and vibrancy.

Q: Should the hair be colored before or after the SEBKT treatment application?

A: A great time to have the treatment done is directly after permanent color, semi-permanent color or highlights. The treatment seals the color in, making it last longer and appear more vibrant. If you choose to have color applied after the treatment, we recommend waiting at least two weeks.

Q: Should the hair be cut before or after the treatment?

A: We recommend that the hair be cut after the treatment, as the hair will have a smoother texture and will lie differently.

Q: Can the treatments be done on chemically treated, relaxed or straightened hair?

A: Yes; in fact, the Smoothing Therapy treatments work to repair damage caused by chemical treatments. It is recommended to wait two weeks between any chemical services.

Q: How many days after the Smoothing Treatment before the hair can get wet or be washed?

A: You must wait:

Q: Can the hair be pulled back or clipped up during the 96/72/8-hour waiting period?

A: No. Avoid making any impressions on the hair from clips, ponytail holders, hats or sunglasses.

Q: What should be done if the hair gets wet during the 72-hour waiting period?

A: Blow-dry and flat iron with medium to low heat as soon as possible.

Q: What kind of shampoo and conditioner should be used?

A: System Elite Pro-Vitamin Shampoo is a must due to the fact that certain ingredients will weaken your results due to Sodium Chloride/Sulfate ingredients. Please note that no other System Elite Shampoo can be used except the one recommended. We recommend the use of System Elite Infusion Daily Conditioner or System Elite Moist EF/x Daily Conditioner.  For best results use System Elite Hydraplex as a leave in after getting out of the shower or the weekly use of System Elite Platinum Moisture Lock once weekly.

Q: How often can the Smoothing Therapy treatments be performed?

A: The treatment can be done as often as every 4 to 6 weeks.

A: It’s important to use a sodium chloride-free shampoo, like System Elite Pro Vitamin Shampoo, which will not strip keratin from the hair. System Elite Structure is a Keratin Protein Restructuring spray that contains 25% keratin protein and offers instant damage repair for split ends and breakage. System Elite styling products work in harmony with our Smoothing Therapy treatments to main results while improving the hair’s styling capabilities.

Q: Can the treatments be done on pregnant or nursing women?

  A: It is not recommended.
